505 Games unveils new WUCHANG title

The next game in the WUCHANG series is in development, led by the original creator and backed by publisher 505 Games.

Original team reunites under new studio

Chengdu Recursive Dolphin Technology—known as Indolphinity—will develop the upcoming title. The studio was founded by Xia Siyuan, who created the first game, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers. 505 Games will handle funding and global publishing, though no release window, platforms, or even a working title have been announced.

The project follows the shutdown of Leenzee, the studio behind the 2025 release. Leenzee closed earlier this year after Xia left and the remaining team declined to return to outsourcing work. Shareholders reportedly proposed the shift, but the refusal led to the studio’s disbandment.

Digital Bros, the parent company of 505 Games, acquired the WUCHANG intellectual property in April 2026. The new game is confirmed only as the next entry in the series—not necessarily a sequel, prequel, or direct continuation.

Controversy still lingers from the first game

WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers launched in July 2025 to solid reviews and strong sales, eventually reaching five million players across PC and consoles. But the game’s later updates drew criticism.

Patch 1.5 altered key story elements, preventing players from killing several historically significant bosses and NPCs. Instead, the characters became exhausted after combat. The update also softened Chapter 4 by making many enemies non-hostile and changed dialogue to ease perceived historical sensitivities.

The backlash was immediate. Some players argued the changes responded to pressure from the Chinese gaming community over the game’s portrayal of Ming and Qing Dynasty history. Others saw the update as a narrative retcon that weakened the plot and tone. Leenzee never provided a detailed explanation for the overhaul.

This isn’t just a footnote in the series’ history. The new team will have to decide whether to keep, reverse, or ignore those changes—assuming the new game even revisits the same setting.

What we don’t know—and how to play the original

Beyond the basic confirmation, 505 Games has shared almost no details. The studio hasn’t revealed whether the new game will continue the story, reuse the same combat systems, or target the same platforms. The size of Indolphinity’s team and whether other original WUCHANG developers have joined Xia remain unclear.

Further announcements aren’t expected soon. The project is still in early preparation, and the publisher has warned that updates will be sparse.

In the meantime, WUCHANG: Fallen Feathers is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It’s currently free with Game Pass Ultimate and was included in PlayStation Plus in May. Players curious about the series can experience the original while waiting for news on the next installment.
